“When we started, we thought it would be fun to go into space,” said Bezos in a press conference. “We sort of came to our senses and realized the scale of what needed to be done. It was not just going into space once and coming back. It was building this whole new system, and that’s been a very dynamic process for us.”

This company is led by Bezos, who started Amazon and has become the richest man in the world. He then used the money he earned from Amazon to start a space exploration company.

“The goal of this company is to develop technologies to lower the cost of space travel and allow more people to explore outer space,” said Bezos. “It’s something I care deeply about because I believe we should explore all other planets, too. But, it is hard to imagine how we can get there without a radical improvement in space technology.”

The company began development in 2000 with testing beginning in 2003 and 2004. They then briefly stopped testing due to lack of funding, but resumed testing at the end of 2006 and continue to test various space technologies such as engines and avionics systems.
